Engineering Admissions Support Services

Choose a specific area of support, or start with a consultation, and we'll recommend the most appropriate approach based on academic profile, target universities, preferred engineering course, and application timeline.

Engineering Application Strategy

Our core admissions consultancy service is for students seeking clear, strategic guidance throughout the entire application process. Support typically includes university and course selection, UCAS planning, ESAT / PAT / TMUA test preparation, and ongoing advice so that all application elements are aligned.

ESAT Tuition

Structured one-to-one admissions test preparation is tailored to the student's strengths, weaknesses, and university goals. We offer expert support for Engineering admissions tests, including ESAT, or other course-specific tests, with a focus on mathematical reasoning, scientific problem-solving, timing, accuracy, and confidence.

Engineering Personal Statement Support

Our expert guidance helps students develop a clear, thoughtful, and competitive engineering personal statement. We focus on structure, reflection, technical curiosity, super-curricular engagement, relevant projects, and clarity of expression.

Economics Interview Preparation

Our support is designed for students preparing for engineering interviews, especially at highly selective universities. We work on technical interview strategy, problem-solving practice, mock interviews, and detailed feedback to help students communicate clearly and think logically under pressure.

Engineering Admissions Support – Frequently Asked Questions

Engineering admissions support provides strategic guidance across the full application process, from early planning and university selection through to ESAT preparation, personal statements, and interviews. Our consultants help students approach each stage with clarity and direction, ensuring all elements of the application are aligned and competitive.

The ESAT is currently compulsory for engineering applicants at Cambridge, Imperial College London, UCL, and Oxford. Requirements vary by course, so students should always confirm with the specific course pages at their target universities before registering.

The ESAT (Engineering and Science Admissions Test) is a computer-based admissions test delivered through Pearson VUE test centres. It consists of three 40-minute multiple-choice modules taken on the same day. Mathematics 1 is compulsory for all candidates, with two further modules chosen depending on the course, typically Physics for engineering applicants, alongside either Mathematics 2 or Chemistry. There is no negative marking, and no calculator is permitted.

The ESAT draws on A-level content in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry, but tests application and problem-solving rather than memorised methods. Questions are designed to stretch even the strongest candidates, and success depends on speed, accuracy, and the ability to approach unfamiliar problems systematically, skills that benefit significantly from structured, targeted preparation.

Most students benefit from beginning structured ESAT preparation at least 8–12 weeks before their October test sitting, with earlier familiarisation work in Year 12 where possible. Given that Cambridge and Oxford require the October sitting, starting preparation over the summer before Year 13 is strongly recommended.

No. UAT-UK allows candidates to sit the ESAT only once per UCAS admissions cycle. There is no resit within the same application year, which makes focused, structured preparation particularly important.

No. Because both universities use the same UAT-UK test, you only need to sit the ESAT once. However, you must sit in the October window if applying to Cambridge or Oxford, as the January sitting is not accepted for those institutions.

Mathematics and Physics are essential for almost all engineering courses at competitive universities, and Further Mathematics is strongly recommended, and in some cases effectively required, for courses at Cambridge and Imperial. Chemistry or another science may be required, depending on the specific engineering discipline. Our consultants provide guidance on subject combinations as part of early admissions planning.

Cambridge and Imperial both conduct interviews for engineering applicants, and interview performance forms a significant part of the admissions decision. Oxford also interviews Engineering Science candidates. Our interview preparation support helps students develop the technical confidence and clear communication skills needed to perform well in an academic engineering interview.

The first step is to book a consultation with our team. This allows us to understand the student's academic profile, target universities, and preparation timeline, and recommend the most appropriate support: whether that is ESAT tuition, personal statement guidance, interview preparation, or a combination of all three.
