Alongside his UK education, Philip successfully navigated the US college admissions process as an international applicant, gaining admission to Caltech and ultimately declining a full-ride offer. This first-hand experience of applying to highly selective US universities informs his academic tutoring and admissions mentoring, through which he works extensively with both UK and international applicants on competitive university pathways.
Philip has significant experience supporting students on intensive summer programmes designed to prepare top-performing candidates for Oxbridge and UK medical school admissions, as well as longer-term mentoring programmes aimed at helping students gain admission to leading US universities. He works closely with students to create a holistic and strategic application profile, identifying and leveraging each student’s individual academic and extracurricular “spike.”
Alongside academic tutoring, Philip supports students through every aspect of the US college application process, with particular expertise in working with international applicants. This includes building balanced and ambitious college lists, advising on early decision strategy, guiding students through entrance exams (including ACT), developing extracurricular profiles, and providing structured, detailed feedback on Common App and supplemental essays, as well as interview preparation.
He also provides expert preparation for BMAT, UCAT, and subject-specific entrance exams, and conducts panel and MMI mock interviews for medical and competitive degree programmes. Alongside admissions coaching, Philip tutors GCSEs, A-level sciences, and engineering-related subjects, ensuring students build strong academic foundations while developing confidence and exam technique.
Having personally experienced both the UK and US systems at the highest level, Philip is particularly skilled at helping students and families navigate the complexities of applying across systems. His teaching style is highly personalised, with lessons tailored to the specific needs of each student to make learning engaging, break down complex material into manageable steps, and help students realise that top universities are achievable with the right preparation, strategy, and support.
Alongside his academic work, Philip is an international track and field athlete, having competed and won at Harvard University, as well as across the Ivy League, including Penn, Cornell, and Yale. Balancing elite sport with academic excellence informs his disciplined, structured, and goal-oriented approach to mentoring students aiming for the world’s most competitive universities.
