FAQs

1

Why should I consider enrolling my child in a revision course?

Our Exam Entrance Specialists have had years of experience helping children gain entrance into the top Grammar Schools in the country. Focussing primarily on exam technique, our courses are designed not just to go through exam papers, but actually teach children how to identify the different types of questions they may encounter, and the method to approaching them.

This is especailly important for the Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning sections of the 11+ Grammar School exams, which are areas your child will likely not have encountered in their regular school curriculum.  Our specialists can help your child gain a competitive advantage by familiarising themselves with question types, rather than blindly working through practice papers without being able to identify their strengths and weaknesses.

2

When should my child start preparing for the 11 Plus exams?

Many parents prefer to start preparing their children for the 11 plus exam in Year 4, or when they turn 9. Subjects like verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and some question types in the English and Maths exams are not typically taught in primary school. By beginning preparations early, or by taking this course, your child will have enough time to familiarise themselves with the types of questions that they may encounter in the exam.

3

What subjects are covered in these courses?

These courses cover all subjects found in the 11 Plus Exam: English, Maths, and Reasoning (Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning).

4

Is the course suitable for both verbal and non-verbal reasoning exams?

Yes, as these exams and the questions asked can be quite different from one-another, we have ensured that time is dedicated to covering both exam types separately.

5

Is there a difference between Week 1 and Week 2?

No. The topics covered in both weeks will be identical, and unless you would like your child to cover the same material twice, we would advise enroling your child in one week only.

6

Are there different levels of courses available for different grammar schools?

From our experience, the format of the 11 plus exams run by Grammar Schools is very similar. Furthermore, many children apply for multiple Grammar Schools. Therefore, we have designed our courses to cover the types of questions typically found in all Grammar School entrance exams.

7

How are the courses structured?

Ivy Education Revision courses are different from other types of 11+ teaching courses you may encounter. Children will be in small groups, allowing for discussion and communication between peers, which can help children gain confidence in their learning.

Students will learn to familiarise themselves and tackle the question types found most often in this examination format: English, Maths, Verbal, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The classes will run for two hours over four days, with each day tackling a different subject.

8

Who are the tutors, and what qualifications do they have?

Our Entrance Exam Specialists have had years of experience helping children gain entrance into the best Grammar Schools in the UK. You can more about who they are and what their qualifications are in the 'Course Tutors' section.

9

How can I track my child's progress during the course?

Within 7 working days after the completion of the course, our entrance exam specialists will compile a detailed feedback report for your child, outlining their strengths, weaknesses, what topics to revise, and a revision pack that can help them with their continued learning.

10

Are there practice exams and mock assessments included?

While example questions will be brought up in the course, we feel that a separate experience for undertaking assessments would be more beneficial for your child, so that they have time to absorb the material covered in the course.

We therefore are offering 11+ Grammar School Mock Entrance Exams. Utilising our expertise, we have crafted demanding and captivating examination papers that mirror your child's assessments at the senior schools they are targeting. Furthermore, we closely simulate examinationenvironments to ensure your child becomes adept and well-acquainted with every facet of the process.
