Richard Brown

Past roles and experience

He was an English Teacher at the Edinburgh Academy, Housemaster at Pangbourne College and, in 2008, became Headmaster of Dorset House School. In 2016, he was appointed Headmaster of Handcross Park School (part of the Brighton College Family of Schools); during his time as Headmaster, Handcross Park was recognised with numerous awards, including being named ‘Best Prep School of the Year’ (The Independent School Awards) in 2019.

He is presently an Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) mentor to over 60 Prep Heads in the Southeast and so has an in-depth knowledge of these schools and their admissions’ requirements.

His understanding of both senior and prep schools, day and boarding, as well as the transition process for international pupils makes him best placed to advise parents when choosing the right school for their child. It is always a balance between the ability and potential of the child, parental priorities and the advice and experience from the experts.

He is a father to two children, who both attended Brighton College, and therefore has an empathy with parents facing the pressures of finding the right school where their child will thrive and flourish.
