Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. | John Dewey
Entry at 13+
13+ is a key intake for some of the most competitive, prestigious secondary schools in the country; as such, expectations are set very high. The 13+ exams take place in either January (London Day Schools) or June (Common Entrance) and are for students currently in Year 8 looking to start at a new school in Year 9. The subjects examined depend partly upon the school in question; the London Day Schools produce their own examination papers in Maths, English, Science and French, whereas the Common Entrance papers, produced by ISEB (Independent Schools Examination Board), are used by many other schools.
The Common Entrance includes papers in a range of other subjects on top of the core areas, including Humanities and possibly Classics. If you would like to discuss more specific examination requirements at 13+ for a particular school, please do get in touch.
"I cant thank your team enough for all their help and yours, A is very chuffed with himself and Stowe here we come!!! And please can you pass my / our huge thanks to Susie and Sophie – truly great!!! Although they think it is all over, we have G next who is 11! So will be in touch again very soon I am sure!"

Pre-Tests
Some schools, including Eton and Harrow, require that students take a pre-test in Year 6 or Year 7 in order to gauge the individual’s ability level before the 13+ is taken in Year 8. Pre-tests look at the cognitive ability of a student and, if successful, the school will make a conditional offer dependent on the 13+ results.
It can be difficult for students to prepare for the pre-tests as practice papers are not available, however we can provide tutors with the necessary experience to clarify exactly what the tests themselves will cover, as well as providing insight into what the schools are looking for from candidates.
Our highly qualified and experienced Educational Consultants are able to give further clarity on the British school system, including further information about the London Day Schools and the expectations of the ISEB. During the application process, our consultants can provide guidance with the best approach to applications, examinations and interviews.
